I'm Cal Proctor
I build websites, customer portals and business automation for businesses that have outgrown the tools they started with. Porthline Digital is based near Nairn and works across Inverness, the Highlands, Scotland and the wider UK.
The work usually starts with a simple problem. Too many enquiries in an inbox. A spreadsheet that has become business critical. Staff chasing updates. A website that looks fine but does not connect to anything. A process that depends on someone remembering every step. I help turn those things into proper systems.
Why I build this way
Most business software is built for everyone, which means it rarely fits anyone exactly. Teams end up bending their process to suit the tool, or holding it together with spreadsheets and good memory.
I prefer to start from how a business actually works and build the smallest thing that removes the friction. Less software, better fitted, is usually the right answer.
Who I work best with
Small and growing businesses across Scotland and the UK, usually with a team that is busy and a process that has quietly become messy. People who want to be found in search and in AI answers, and want one person they can talk to plainly, who will build the right thing and stay involved, rather than a large agency and an account manager.
What I do not do
Tools and approach
I build with modern, well-supported tools, so what I make is stable, secure and easy to maintain. I keep things as simple as the job allows, document what matters, and make sure you are never locked out of your own systems.
Prefer to just talk it through?
A short call is the easiest way to see whether I can help. No prep needed, and nothing to commit to.
